Sustainable Farming

The agriculture industry influences many sectors of the economy globally and locally.

From farmers and real estate to supermarkets and restaurants, it’s important to understand what is going on in this industry and how it will affect the production and distribution of food.

Issues like the use of global water resources and new technological ability to monitor crops even further will continue to play a role in our world.

Water access and seasonal weather continue to be some of the many issues that farmers face. With recent technology developments and system design enhancement, the ability to grow year-round, indoor vertical farms is proving to have higher yield potential on crops. And, because crops are grown in controlled environments, fewer pesticides and less water are required than conventional produce.

Mabata partnered with like-minded small scale businesses and have piloted a combined Aquaponics / Hydroponic system as a concept trial in Halifax, NS. Mabata is looking to expand this project into a commercial sized farming venture in the coming year and has identified two potential locations for its farms. one in Nova Scotia, the other in Jordan.
